Bio
Dr. Ceinwen E. Cumming is a psychologist at the Cross Cancer Institute, Westmount Site, and a Clinical Professor in the Department of Oncology, Division of Palliative Care, within the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. She holds a doctoral degree in counselling psychology and was a Canada Research Fellow (SSHRC) at the University of Alberta. At the Cross Cancer Institute, Dr. Cumming currently has clinical, teaching, and research responsibilities. She also undertakes the duties of a staff psychologist in a psychosocial oncology setting. Individual, couple, and family counseling with patients and family members, and bereavement follow-up form part of the workload. Dr. Cumming has been involved in clinical program evaluation and research in psychosocial oncology. At the University, Dr. Cumming has undertaken research, thesis supervision, and teaching.

This presentation describes the Healing Hearts Group, a psycho-educational and supportive intervention, for adults who have experienced a cancer-related death. The process of how the group is facilitated is described. The group has been offered successfully for the past three years to participants over a wide age range and from a diversity of backgrounds. Mixed methods evaluation research could be undertaken, with sufficient funding, using survey and focus group methodologies.
